Importnace and virtues of friday in islam

One of the seven days of the week is Friday, which is the chief day of the rest. An entire Surah has been revealed in the Holy Qur’an on the name of Friday, because this Surah mentions the obligation of Friday, that is why this Surah has been named Surah Al-Juma’ah.

Friday prayer is obligatory and denying it is disbelief because the proof of it is also definite and the indication of its necessity is also definite:

 So Allah Ta’ala said:

 یٰۤاَیُّهَا الَّذِیْنَ اٰمَنُوْۤا اِذَا نُوْدِیَ لِلصَّلٰوةِ مِنْ یَّوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ فَاسْعَوْا اِلٰى ذِكْرِ اللّٰهِ وَ ذَرُوا الْبَیْعَؕ-ذٰلِكُمْ خَیْرٌ لَّكُمْ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُوْنَ ۔

Translation:

O Faithful, when the call to prayer (Friday) is given on the day of Friday, run to the remembrance of Allah and stop buying and selling.

Why was Friday named:

Abu Salamah said: The first day of Friday was called al-Arooba and the first person who named this day as Juma’ah was Ka’b bin Lui, and there is a saying that the Ansar was the first to name this day as Juma’ah.

Imam Ibn Sirin said that before the Prophet (PBUH) came to Madinah and before the obligation of Friday was revealed, the people of Madinah gathered and they named this day Friday. He said: Jews also have a day in which they gather for worship and every seven days they have a holy day and that is Saturday (Saturday) and for Christians there is a similar day and that is Sunday. So come on! Let us also appoint a day in the week on which we all gather and remember Allah and offer special prayers on that day. Then he said: The Jews have appointed Saturday (Saturday) and the Christians have appointed Sunday, then we appoint the day of Yom al-Arooba.

Then they all went to Hazrat Asaad bin Zarara (Abu Umamah) and he led them in two rakat prayers and preached to them, then on the day they gathered He named this day Friday. (Tafsir Tabiyan al-Qaran)

Hadiths about the virtues of Friday:

Hazrat Aus bin Aus (RA) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: The best day of your days is Friday, on the same day that Adam was born, on that day his soul was captured, on that day the trumpet will be blown, on that day everyone will faint, so on this day, recite more salutations on me, because your salutations and salutations are offered on me. (Tafsir Tabiyan al-Qaran)

Forgiveness of previous sins on Friday:

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (RA) narrates that the Prophet (PBUH) said: “Whoever performs ablution and then comes for Friday prayers and prays as many times as he was destined to do, then sits silently until the Imam has finished his sermon and then prays with the Imam, then his sins from this Friday to the previous Friday and for three more days are forgiven.” (Shrah sahi muslim)

 Reward of charity on Friday:

Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “When Friday comes, angels write the names of those who come first at each door of the mosque, and when the imam sits down for the sermon, they wrap the names and come and listen to the sermon, and the one who comes early is like a person who gives a camel in charity in the way of Allah, the Exalted.” And the person who comes after him is like the person who gives a cow in charity, the person who comes after him is like the person who gives a ram in charity, then the person who comes after him is like the person who gives a chicken in charity, then the person who comes after him is like the person who gives an egg in charity. (Sharh Sahih Muslim)

What happens to Friday’s dead:

Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA) narrated that the Prophet (PBUH) said: Whoever dies on Friday, he is protected from the punishment of the grave. (Musnad Imam-e-Azam)

A promise to give up Friday:

Hazrat Abu Al-Jaad al-Dumri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Whoever abandons Friday three times due to laziness, Allah will seal his heart. (Tafseer Tabayan Al-Qur’an Surah Juma’ah)

Obligation of Friday prayer:

Friday prayer is obligatory on every sane and mature, free and local Muslim male.
