The Incident of Umm al-Mu'minin Hadrat Sayyida Umm Salama A):
(Rm al-Mu'minin Hadrat Sayyida Umm Salama (RA)'s husband, Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Salama (RA), was severely injured in the Battle of Uhud, but Allah granted him health. After that, he was sent with another army. When he returned from there, his wounds reopened. And he passed away due to those wounds. Hadrat Sayyida Umm Salama (RA) loved her husband Abu Salama (RA) very much, and his passing caused her great grief.
اللھم اَجِر٘نِی فِی مُصِی٘بَتِی وَاخ٘لُف٘ لِی٘ خَی٘رًا مِن٘ھَا
Acting Upon the Teachings of the Holy Prophet ﷺ in this State of Sorrow, and its Benefit:
Hadrat Umm Salama (RA) had heard from the Holy Prophet ﷺ that when a calamity befalls someone, they should make this dua:
اللھم اَجِر٘نِی فِی مُصِی٘بَتِی وَاخ٘لُف٘ لِی٘ خَی٘رًا مِن٘ھَا۔( صحیح مسلم)
Dua in English Text:
Allahumma ajirni fi musibati wa ukhluf li khairan minha.
Meaning:
O Allah, reward me in my calamity and replace it for me with something better than it.
Sayyida (RA) Making This Dua Her Practice:
After the passing of her husband, Sayyida (RA) made this dua her regular practice. Hadrat Sayyida Umm Salama (RA) says that when she would recite it, a thought would come to her heart: Who among the Muslims would be better than my husband Abu Salama (RA)? But because this was the saying of the beloved Prophet ﷺ, she kept reciting it. Then came the time when, by the blessing of this dua, Allah Almighty granted her a replacement better than Abu Salama (RA).
The Blessing of This Practice:
And that was the Master of all Prophets, the Leader of both worlds, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa ﷺ. By the blessing of this dua taught by the Holy Prophet ﷺ, Allah Almighty granted Hadrat Sayyida Umm Salama (RA) a husband who is the leader of all the worlds and the Imam of the Prophets, and Allah Almighty gave her the title of Umm al-Mu'minin. Therefore, when a calamity befalls or, God forbid, there is a loss, one should recite this dua abundantly. Especially, women who become widowed at a young age should recite this dua abundantly. InshaAllah, something better will be granted.
