The Virtue of Having Sexual Intercourse With One’s Wife in Islam
Allah Almighty has created the ability to procreate and reproduce within man. And He has also created sensual desires and emotions. Now, just think about it and the problem will be solved whether having sexual intercourse with one’s wife is a source of reward and blessing or not?
Two ways to fulfill desires:
The problem is that there are two ways and two methods to fulfill sensual desires and sensual emotions:
- One is the lawful way۔
- And the other is the unlawful way۔
When a person abandons the unlawful and adopts the lawful way, he will be worthy of reward from Allah Almighty for abandoning the unlawful. Insha Allah.
Reward for having sex with your wife:
The meaning of the last part of a long hadith about the reward for having sex with your wife is as follows:
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) while talking about charity, said at the end that even protecting your shrines is charity for you. The companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked:
“O Messenger of Allah, if one of us fulfills his desires, does he receive any reward for it?”
In response, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) asked: “Well, tell me, all of you, if that person uses his lust in a forbidden way, will he be guilty of a sin?” So, similarly, if that person satisfies his lust in a lawful way, he also gets a reward.

Cursing of angels:
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: When a husband calls his wife, she refuses, and he spends the night in anger, the angels curse her until morning.

Will a woman be cursed in every situation?
No, if a woman is sick, in pain, very tired and wants to rest, or has a religious excuse, then in such a case the woman will not be blamed for refusing her husband’s invitation. Rather, in such a situation the husband should sympathize with his wife and not make such a wish, for which the husband will also receive a reward.
Conclusion:
After reading these hadiths, one comes to the conclusion that: A man’s sexual intercourse with his wife is a source of reward.
